Default Starter issue

Just wanted to know if anyone else here has had an issue with getting the correct starter for their Mustang from Autozone? I went to get one today for my '67 Mustang and had to make two trips. I have a coupe with a 289, 4V, and 3 speed manual. I got the starter that Autozone said was the correct one for my car. When I got back and tried to install it, it wouldn't fit in the bellhousing. I took it back to Autozone and with a caliper, measured the end that installs in the bellhousing. The one I just bought was about 1/8" bigger than the bad one I took off the car. I asked to look at the starter for an automatic tranny. Turns out, the one I needed was the starter that they list for an automatic transmission. Worked like a champ. Anyone else have issues like this with starters? Seems odd that a starter for an automatic is what I needed for my 3 speed manual. Oh, and the bad starter I took of the car looks exactly like the one for the automatic. The starter for a manual tranny was a little different. The difference was the part of the starter that that fits in the tranny bellhousing. What say you? Any issues with starters?
