Heater core leaking
A heater core for a 65/66 without A/C is only 22.95 at Mustangs Unlimited.

You have to disconnect the two heater hoses, then remove the heater box. Instructions are in the Shop Manual (I don't have mine here at work). A non-A/Cis easier, but still no picnic.

It get a little more complicated than just removal of hoses. In most cases the hoses have 'molded' their ends to the fittings on the engine and may have to be cut off - now you need new hoses. When they come off, coolant will pour out - fact. The solution is to drain the radiatoror cut one hose long enough to make a loop back to the other fillting. You can still sdive the car this way - after putting the coolant back. Next, the clamps - they're old and may fall apart. Those are easy to get at a local auto parts store - or you can get the tower type when you order the core. When you take apart the heater box, you will find it has a lot of leaves and other junk that came in thru the cowl. Also, there are foam gaskets and seals in the box - you need the heater rebuild kit. Consider a new plastic plenum as well.
To remove:
1. Disconnect hoses.
2. Disconnect the two wires to the blower.
3. Remove passengers seat. Remove the three control cables from the core and defroster.
4. In the upper right corner, there is a long sheet metal screw that needs to come out. It requires a 3/8 hex socket on a long extension.
5. Remove the four stamped nuts in the engine compartment around the blower.
6. Give the blower a push and pull the heater out in the passengers area. The hoses will come thru last.
To replace core:
1. Remove hoses.
2. Remove defroster plenum.
3. Using two screwdrivers, one one each side, pry apart the 11 clips that keep the heater box together.
4. The box will come apart with a little prying.
5. Scrape old gaskets and foam off.
6. Scrap, wire brush or sand metal and paint black.
7. Using 3M spray adhesive, install new seals and foam. There are instructions as part of the seal kit.
8. Reassemble box and plenum.
9. Loop the uncut new hose thru the two holes in the firewall and attach to core with clamps. You can cut to length after the heater is installed with out screwing up on the lengths.
10. Re-install box, cables, wires etc and attach hoses.
