Default Ebay Shelby ?

OK guys, take a look at this auction ;

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...39325&rd=1

Now for the real question ... Is it a real Shelby ? OR , is it ain't ? Here's the email that I sent to the seller. I've cut and pasted it below.

MYSTERY SOLVED ! I hope you'll receive this info in the manner it is submitted. I am not trying to be a wise guy or a know it all BUT ... According to my Shelby Buyers Guide and other Shelby literature... The first 5 characters of the factory FORD VIN must be 5R09K followed by the sequence number of 6 digits. The second character "R" denotes the car was built at the San Jose assembly plant and all 65 Shelbys came from San Jose. This car is from the Metuchen, NJ plant. Also, the fifth character "K" denotes 271 horse 289 Hi-Po. All Shelbys carried K engines in 65 and since this car is an "A" code 4 barrel car, that also leads me to believe it isn't a Shelby. Also ,the export brace was different than the base Mustang. The export brace I see in the photos is stock Mustang and not Shelby. Lastly, the floorboard in the photos appears to have originally been blue. ALL 65 Shelbys were Wimbledon White in color. I must admit, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the listing. Good luck, Dean

That's not a shelby, but maybe you can pick it up cheap. You can make a nice A code restoration out of it. It might even be a factory GT car...who knows?

Good eye Dean. He retracted the ad and came back with an error in listing. The ***** didn't want to face a lawsuit for false advertising.
Good job bro.

I really wasn't trying to hardass the guy. I just didn't want him to have any wiggle room if he was deceptive in any way. I've got to admit that I was very excited for a minute. You did notice that I didn't tell you guys about it until after I'd already debunked it. [&:]I was already getting the trailer hooked up to my truck inanticipation of my winning bid.

Believe it or not, I'd still be a player on that car if we could reach an agreeable price. The AFX car that I mentioned in another thread is still one of my long term goals. I can't bring myself to cut up a nice body but a rustbucket that needs everything is just begging for an altered wheelbase tube chassis. Shove a mediocre/durable 390 in the hole with a 4 speed and have a world of fun at the dragstrip. The car would look the part and perform well enough to go fast without getting in trouble.

I'll do it one of these days. I think maybe I'll call it " One Trick Pony " or maybe " Pony Express " or maybe " Nightmare " . " Pure Hell " would be a great name because of the difficulty to shoe one of those things down the straight and narrow. I just don't want to rob themoniker from the legendary roadster of the same name.

I can see it now ... screaming orange paint, straight axle , Halibrand bigs and littles, glass panels all around ...you get the drift.

Dean

He says he is not a mustang expert, yet he has owned 100's of them?? I have only owned one, and I have learned tons more info about them (thanks to this site). How could you own that many, and still be that stupid about them?

You guys are brutal. The seller appears to own a boneyard which explains a lot. He never claimed it was a Shelby, I think the fellow was just hoping he hit the jackpot. I'll bet he pulled the listing to protect his 100% positive rating for 168 sales. Not everyone trying to make a buck is an assh0le.

This is a 1965 GT350 Shelby or at least I think it is.
This could make for a great find, but the car is rusty.
Please do your research on this as I do not know the history of the car.
You are more than welcome to come look at it before you buy I have nothing to hidethanks.
To get a positive rating 168 times is tough. You have to bend over backwards to please that many people.

I'm thinking an honest fellow who was fooled by an old clone.

If you think it's tough to get 168 positives ... try 2,637. That's what my feedback rating is right now. I agree that it was probably an honest mistake with a twist of a fishing expedition thrown in. Either way, no one gets burned.
