If I am going to raise the whole car, I use 6 jack stands. Two in the rear at the end of the frame rail, two at the front of the frame rails and two under the motor. I also leave the floor jack under the pumpin, and two hydraulic jacks under the lower A frame. That way the car is solid as a rock.

+1 on the jack as a back up. Dont use ramps. My dad was stuck under a car for a few hours when he was younger when the ramps gave way. I cant believe they still make those. I notice you all talking about putting the stands under the frame rails. Are you doing anything special to keep them from denting. The bottom of my rails are all messed up from the use of jacks and jack stands over the years.

Yeah, you put a chunk of lumber between the jack and the frame rail.

Look right behind the red bushings. You can see how the frame rail is cradled in a wide teeth of the jackstand.

I know how to use jack stands correctly, but you can see the condition of my frame rails. All of my other rigs except my wifes piece of junk toyota have a stout frame to jack on. My wifes toyota uses a jack that attaches at a weld point so the car doesnt dent.

even though your frame rail is a little beat up it is still by far the best place to put a jackstand

You asked if I was doing anything special to keep them from denting. Yes, I use a jackstand that doesn't hold the framerail across the bottom. That's all I was trying to convey. When I jack it up to put it on the jackstand, I use a floorjack and turn the teeth so they lift by the edges and not across the middle of the rail.

And yes, mine look like that also.

I assume we are not talking about a jack point to change a tire. Those points are well defined with the jacking instructions on the inner top of your trunk lid.

Well I'm glad it wasn't just me interested in this. I've got my car up and thanks to you guys I could live in cali and not have it fall over and if it did I wouldn't be worried. We pulled the rear axel out with leafs and everything and allready pulled the front and changed the springs and have it all back together with the shocks and all. just some finishing touches. Thanks all.
