Default SEAT BELTS

I bought an early 66 coupe a few weeks ago. It has no seat belts. The previous owner told me that it did not come with seat belts. Is this true?? If this is true , am I required to install seat belts?

Regardless of what was the norm in 1966, you should install seat belts if you think your passenger's and your safety is important...

I don't have them in my car and don't want them. In the state of GA you have to wear seatbelts if you have them, but if your car did not come with them you don't have to wear them. A 1966 ford mustang is not a safe car. If you want a safe car don't buy a mustang. Seatbelts don't help much. When I drive my 66 mustang, I know if I get it to a bad wreck, I can kiss my but bye. I try to drive safe. If you put in a lap seatbelt....... Thats not good. It can hurt you really bad if you get into a a wreck. I would only put one in if I had to.

I think id have to disagree. I think having a lap belt is better than no belt at all. Id much rather get jolted around inside my car rather than fly threw the windshield.

Good point, But I would rather be dead then have my guts ripped out of me and be ripped in half by a lap belt.

It all depends on what kind of wreck you are in. If it is a head on collision, the lap belt ain't gonna keep the steering wheel from spearing you. But, if it is a side shot on the rear or front quarter, the lap belt will keep you from being thrown out of the car. My 65 came with front lap belts. Nothing in the rear. It is possible to install 3 point belts in these cars though. Even in the back.
