Default New memeber question on console

Trying to install the long center console into a '66 convertible (no a/c). Received the console as a separate part when the car was purchased years ago and after putting in new upholstry, carpeting and repairing the heater box I'm ready to put the console back in. Does anyone have any tips on the installation process as this will be my first time through? Specifically the z shaped mounting bracket but also any tips in general. If you know of any tech write-ups as well. Thanks in advance.

holy crap, turn down the font...

Now i see this is your first post, so welcome!

I would say, pick up an assembly manual. That, and see if you can find pics of member's installed consoles, that way you can kind of see how it goes. I personally will be doing this soon, so I'm doing the same thing now

Sorry about the font. As you can see, having trouble spelling as well. When you say assembly manual, can you be more specific?

I wish I could be...I can't remember the name of it, but I know i bought it from Dallas mustang. It was like $20 I think, and has exploded views of almost everything on the car (minus electrical).

They might be able to help you if you call them. I couldn't find it on their website.

Forget about the 'Z' bracket, it's not necessary and not easy to install. With a convertible, there are modification needed on the lower edges of the console to get it to fit. The two plugs for the electrical are way up under the dash in the center and the ground wire attaches to a screw in front of the shifter. Position the console and using an awl, make one mounting hole and put in one screw. Check it one more time and then put in the rest of the screws. Removing one seat may help.
