Tachometer addition?
The resistance wire has a plug and socket connection to the ignition switch. You disconnect it and plug in the Ralley Pac tach wires. Simple. Oh, you need to remove the instrument cluster and the left hand kick panel. Still simple. Ref wire 16 and 16A on the right hand side of the diagram from the FAQ section. www.hammar.dyndns.org/~djhamma/wiring/1966/66ignit.jpg

I'm in the process of installing my tach in a 66 289 coupe. I have hooked up the black, white[tied into the red ] and green. My problem is finding a switched hot for the red wire to tie into. I want to connect this wire in the engine compartment if at all possible. Any ideas? Tell me the color code and location, I have all the elecrtical diagrams to locate the hot. Thanks
Yeah Soaring. I installed a factory tach dash in my 67 and it wires up NOTHING like an Autometer. Wired to factory specs, the Ford tach actually becomes part of the ignition circuit and doesn't "read" the rpms off of the coil like the "normal" ones do.
Typical Ford as my Pontiac friend would say.

Yeah I tried to hook it to the red wire coming off the ignition switch, before the pink resistor that goes to the Pertronix ignition, and nothing. I know the tach works because I jumped to the pos side of the battery. Isn't there a wire in the engine compartment [ not going to put the tach in there] that I can hook up to? Tried the oil and temp senders also, no good. Thanks
Updating my story (minor hijack
), I have a new repop Rally Pac ordered. I'll post up my impressions when I get it.
To the OP, the tach keyed 12V power draws very little current. Find the plug that your radio plugs into and see if there is another spot to plug in your tach with a male bullet connector. IIRC, the power lead that the radio plugs into had three spots. Get out a test light and go for it.
Good luck!

1. What type of tach?
2. Did you get instructions with it?
3. What colorwire is currently going to the coil?
4. Where are the other wires hooked up?
The electrical contact point on the back of the ignition switch on the 10-32 stud is THE best place to getswitched hot. Just about every switched system in your car gets its power there.

Call me lazy or call me old, but I don't look foward to laying on my back, messing with wires under the dash. I had hoped there was a place where the hot lead could be accessed from the engine compartment. Installing the Pertronix was bad enough, but if I must I must. Thanks
