Default 289>352

my dad has 67 ford f250 pickup with a 352 engine and we were wondering whether we could remove the engine from the truck and use in our 67 fastback? would we be able to use in with the same tranny that is in the fastback and just beef it up?

thanks.

edited: found out the truck has a 352 engine and not a 390 like originally specified.

the fastback has a c4 auto tranny currently, we will probably send it to get rebuilt to handle the extra torque.

but the 352 in the truck is in good running condition, no problems, starts up no problem, i think it has something like 60,000 miles on it.

ok, i cant answer the question as i am not familiar with the 352
it may well have different bell housing etc and if the truck was auto, probably a c6 not c4.
you may need different radiator, engine mounts almost certainly.
9" diff maybe

also the truck motor may well be a real low revving torque motor
parts likely to be harder to get and performance not as good as current v8 (I am assuming the stang is a v8???)

id stick with the 289, a 352 is a low revving high torque truck engine, it just wouldnt feel right in a stang, not to mention that finding performance parts would be a pain

The C4 could handle a stock 352, but good luck finding a way to connect the two. You'd be better off finding a C6 for the FE. You can make a lot of power with the 352, just like you can with a 390...just not quite the same level. Just remember the 352 has a 0.050" smaller bore when looking for parts.

Now, your 289 probably has an 8" rear, which can handle the stock 352. Your engine bay will be very tight, and will need special headers to work in the engine bay. Don't be surprised if the shock towers or firewall will need to be massaged a little.

yeah this was just an idea my dad had, probably we'll just buy a crate 302/347 and just drop that in.
