Master Cylinder push rod question
IRT my 66 shop manual section 2-2, If it doesn't come loose by pulling it there is a snap ring that holds the entire piston packageand spring in the MC that must be removed. Be carefull if you take the piston out as it will literally explode all over the place due to the springs pressure if you don't hold the pushrod in while removing the snap ring. You should be able to tell by looking at it if the rod is retained by the snap ring or not..
Depress the primary piston and remove the snap ring from the groove at the rear of the master cylinder. A pair of snap ring pliers is almost a necessary tool for this. Remove the pushrod and the primary piston assembly, but do not remove the screw that retains the primary return spring retainer. This is a factory set and must not be disturbed. Remove the secondary piston assembly but do not remove the outlet pipe seats, outlet check valves and outlet check valve springs from the master cylinder body.
To get the push-rod out of my 66M/C, I simply pulled like hell while twisting the rod around and back and forth in the bore..... It came out....
Well I got it out, but now I cant find it,,,, which sucks because after I installed the 67 dual reservoir M/C, I discovered that I need the damn thing because the 67 rod is too short..... [:@][:@][:@]

Sounds like me. I can lay a part right in front of me and can't find it two minutes later.

Oh well I guess I will need to find a solution....

I got it too. It started about the same time I started getting mailings from AARP.
Why do you want to remove the rod? A replacement master cylinder for a 66 comes with the rod installed. Now in 65, the rod was removable, and the replacement have no rod. In any case, to remove the rod, you need a special extraction tool. I don't know why Ford did this. Well, I do have a couple ideas - it pisses you off for one.
