Default better performance

i have a 65 coupe with a 289 and i am looking for more performance. it is my every car so street-ability is important. i know it will have to be compromised with power however. i have an edelbrock performer intake paired with a 570 cfm 4 bbl holley carb, k&n air filter, msd ready-to-run pro billet distributor, msd 6A ignition box and dual straight pipes with flowmaster mufflers. i was leaning towards headers and an h-pipe before anything else but i also want to eventually get new heads and a new cam. Any suggestions with the headers, heads and cam? i have also considered changing the stock gears in the rearend but do not know what ratio to go with. any help is greatly appreciated

Do some research on Air Flow Research (AFR) heads. I think you will like what you read. Tri-Y headers are worth their weight too. For streetability, the 3:55.1 ratio gears are about as steep as you want to go without suffering on gas mileage. You'll probably want a mild cam for driving around town. Check with Comp Cams.

AFR 165s, Edelbrock Performers(same as the RPM but with a 1.90 valve and smog ports, the smaller valve will be better in a smaller engine) Dart 170's, Trick Flow TW's etc etc. As far as a cam, if you want performance without sacraficing drivability, get a hydraulic roller cam. A rebuild with some lighter weight pistons will help too, and definately better rod bolts

I'd say go with AFR heads, and try-y's as said above...also higher ratio roller rocker arms.

If you have the time to wait, you really can't beat having a stroker. 331 or 347 would be reasonably priced buy unless you buy a short block you will have to wait for the install. $2000

The gt40 and the gt40P are damn good cast iron heads. Just not the breathability as the aluminum AFR's.

i am also having troubles finding a wire i can tie into to supplya full 12 volts to the msd components. i cannot run a wire straight to the battery because they cannot have continuous power. any ideas?

Yeah. Go to the FAQ section above and find a wiring diagram in the bottom of the FAQ section under electronics. You can tap into the switched 12V wire on the ignition switch. If my memory serves me correctly, it is the black with blue stripe wire.
