Default 1967 fastback trans brake trouble

I have a 1967 fastback with a trans brake and it is locked up. I have no idea how to release it. Does anybody know how a trans brake works and what I can do to fix the problem?

Define 'trans brake'.

Probably talking about the emergency or parking brake Jim. You pull out toward you and twist to the left to release the E brake.

A "transbrake" locks the tranny in R while it's in gear. This loads the motor like foorbraking, but the car never moves forward. Let the button go and hold on.
Brian, I'm guessing it goes in reverse, but won't go forward ? Try disconnecting the ground for the soleniod first to make sure it not activated. I would imagine the valve in the valvebody is stuck, and it'll need to come out.

Thank you. From what I understand that is exactly what it does. I will try that and let you know how it goes.

OK, now describe a practical use.

The point is to make a better hole shot when drag racing. I am not planning on doing any of that with it but that is the reason for it. I think you are supposed to go forward though but I don't know that much about them.

It did go forward but I haven't tried it since the problem. I really appreciate the suggestion I am going to work on it some Sunday so we shall see.

Sounds logical. I can see commercial applications for this - likethe Post Office, or UPS.

So, you are saying a trans brake is a brake that locks the front wheels so you can burn out the rear tires in the hole at a quarter mile race track? Is that what I am reading?
