Default Transmission shift problems.

Ive been having some linkage problems with my shifter. first of all its hard to put it in park and usually when you think its in park its in neutral. i have to set me emergancy brake all the time because im afraid of it ever since my accedent. the other day i was showing some friends the car and i had it on an incline in my drive way. well i thought the park was on but the only thing holding the car was the emergancy so when i went to rev it up a little the whole car flew back in reverse mowing over my friend with the door. fortunatly i didnt hit anything and didnt hurt anyone but i sure did learn that its got a hell of a lot of power. so my question for yall is how do i fix this. the shifter will actually shift if you hit it with your hand and dont press the button in. any info helps!
thanks guys
