Default sway bar frame bushing install

Hello all,

I have new Poly sway bar frame bushings. However, I am unsure as to how to install them over the ends of the sway bar. The old rubber bushings just squished over the ends. However, there is no way to squish the Poly ones over the ends.

So how do you install Poly sway bar frame bushings?

If they were like mine you have a new bushing inside a brass half circle? take the bushing out of the brass and see if the bushing is cut in half. If it is spread the bushing and slide it over the sway bar in the correct place and then slide the brass fitting back over it. If yours does not have a slit then I would suggest some kind of lubricant to help slide the bushing over the end of the sway but that doesn't sound like much fun.

The ones I have are not cut. The only way I can see to get them on is to cut them.

Set the bushing out in the hot sun (take advantage of Global Warming before winter sets in) for 30 minutes or so, apply some liquid dish soap to the sway bar, and slide the bushing on. Do it as quick as you can.

I did not think about warming them up. Great idea. Thanks for the tip.

If your sway bar looks anything like mine, forcing them over the end wont be such a smart idea. On mine the diameter of the bar is alot wider at the ends than anywhere elso. So, squishing them over is going to strecth out the bushing.

Just make a cut through the bushing and pop it over onto the bar.

Tip I came accross to help prevent squeeking is to wrap some teflon tap around the bar where the bushings will sit. You know, the white tape used to seal threads for plumbing.
