Default Automatic shift points?

I have a 68, 302 with a C4. It seems to shift too soon, and was wondering what the shift points were and if they can be adjusted. It shifts out of first gear at about 6-8 mph and out of 2nd about15 mph.

Those are very light throttle shift point---The shift points should raise with incresed throttle pressure to about 45 and 55 then up to 65 or so with the downshift rod in play-If these shift points don't vary with throttle pressure then your throttle volve is not working. Step 1 would be to remove the vacuum can on the back passanger side of the trans (Don't loose the small rod between the can and the inside of the trans. It may well be full of fluid or otherwise stuck. If this is not the problem feel free to e-mail me at DGA1028@gmail.com I will give you further steps

You could just try adjusting the vacume modulator first.. I dont know how long its supposed to be in first, but the jump from 2-3 is adjustable with the modulator by just pulling the vacume hose off of it and screwing in the small flat head screw on the inside of the modulator can.. You screw that thing in quite a bit for a good change of shift point.. Try it out.. the modulator in on the driver side of the tranny and probably pointing towards the rear of the car, (mine was but its an FMX)..

The shift points were under a light, normal drive condition. I did try getting a little harder on the pedal, and it did stay in 1st and 2nd a little longer. My car does not have akickdown setup on it, but maybe I should get the lokar cable to do it.

you need to hook up that missing linkage and adjust it before you do anything else. The kick down linkage affects the operation of the primary throttle valve (the inside part of the modulator).

In another question on the board, they said you didn't need the kickdown linkage, as many people drive it like a 3 speed....1str, 2nd, drive. But I always thought it should have it. Any suggestions of how to install it??
