cylinder heads
im building my 289 and i cant decide what heads to use
i like the look of the ford racing gt-40 aluminum heads (160cc int. 53cc exh)
but i was wondering how they would stack up against some dart aluminum heads or maybe some twisted wedge heads
what about some edelbrocks?

canfield 170's, or some RHS heads would be better bets than everything else listed i believe, but you really cant go wrong with AFR's either [8D]
btw that links kinda bogus cause they say their baseline was like 275 when the motor was rated for 225..... so wtf? swapping from EFI to a stealth intake and a 4bbl doesnt give you 50hp. nonetheless, the heads did perform exceptionally well

I bought Edelbrock Victor Jr. Heads,,,, after looking at everything,, I looked for what I wanted, and weighed this against price and ended up with the Edelbrocks, they were "factory ready" for a pretty damn warm cam.... big valves, the port sizes thatI think I was looking for, etc.... I might give up 5 HP to a similar set ofAFR heads, but who knows?
The Victor Jr's might be a little much for a 289 though...
I really like to use Summit's website for comparing parts, it is really easy to look at and compare different products, wether I buy from there or not...
Watch out, some heads will only work with, or are recomended for use with speciffic pistons (usually of the same brand), and others will require use of special "bolt hole inserts" for use on a 289 / 302..
You will also want to make sure that the exhaust port location is worked into your equation, I had to be carefull that the heads I got did not have raised exhaust ports, with the 351 in the 66 I could not afford to make the engine any wider by the heads having raised ports. I have heard that raised ports can require the use of special headers, not an expense that I want to bear.
You will want to see what comes on the heads, like rocker studs, guide plates, single or dual spring, etc.

Dart 170, AFR 165, Edelbrock Performer or TFS TW's will all perform very similarly in terms of the power you make. And they're all better than the GT-40X heads, not that Ford's stuff is bad, but there is better out there. I'm running the AFR 165's
