Value of '66 K Code Fastback with Non-Original Engine?
I'm looking at a '66 GT Fastback K Code with a '65 K Code Coupemotor (at least that's what the VIN on the engine block decodes to). It's a 10 year old restoration and is in excellent driver condition. Pony interior and appears to be a factory GT (e.g. tail lights turn on with fog light switch, correct tag on steering box, etc.). Repainted in original color. Door plate looks pretty fresh and owner doesn't have build sheet, protecto plate or sales invoice. It's a 4 speed. 20K "racing" miles on engine, since last rebuild. Curious what would be a fair price for it?
Go to www2.nadaguides.com and follow the links on muscle cars and beyond. You will get a low, mid and high values.

Thanks Jim. But those guides only apply to cars with original engines. How much do I deduct, if the car doesn't have it's original motor, but a correct spec motor?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Buy it. Use the incorrect engine as a bargaining chip. It is a HP engine (from the seller's side) but not original (from your side). You saw the prices, so do some creative negotiations. Check to see that thetransmission tag says HEH-BX. That's for a close ratio Ford top loader.

I sold an HEH-T close ratio toploader (VIN 5R07K137889) for about $750 last November to a guy on the HiPo Mustang forums. I don't know how close that is to market value.
Good luck!
