Default Do they still make this bulb? 1142

My reverse light went. I took out the bulb and the part number says 1142. I can't find 1142 at any part store. I tried 1157 but on of the nubs gets in the way. Someone suggested to remove one of the nubs. Anyone else have the same problem and know where to find the bulb or is cutting off one of the nubs the best way?

The 1142 type bulb is no longer being made by the major manufactures. The next time you order something from a mail order Mustang store, get extra 1142 bulbs. There is no replacement and a modified 1157 will not work well if at all. If you visit junk yards often, that can be another source - and don't forget the 6012 headlights which are also in the process of being discontinued. At least you can upgrade them to halogen when the supply runs out.

Does anybody have a link of the bulbs for a '65? I know they are all listed in the FSM and the owner's manual, both of which I left at home. [:@] I meant to bring them today so I could pick up new bulbs while I'm at the store on the way home.

Thanks,
Jeff

[edit] Brainfart! I see that NPD lists the bulb numbers in their catalog.

Having purchased lights at Kragen this evening, I'd suggest getting a list of parts you need and order them from NPD. NPD lists most of their bulbs for $0.50 each whereas Kragen averaged $1.50 per bulb ($3 per 2 pack). I dropped $30 on light bulbs. [sm=headbang.gif]

[edit] BTW, I looked and they do not carry the 1142 on the shelves. My '65 doesn't have backup lights so I'm in the clear.

Would a 1156 work? It's a single-filament bulb thatdraws a little over half an amp more than the 1142, but that shouldn't be a problem.
