Default 65 Mustang help needed

I got some good advice in my previous thread so I figured it would be best to post what I am looking to do.

It's a 65 mustang with all rust cut/welded/sanded down and fresh paint.

The interior looks like this.

I was thinking of putting down Dynamat and then buying an interior leather kit, but I don't know parts makers that well.
What other interior upgrades arerecommended?
Also, are there any kits to convert from an automatic to a manual?

I'm looking to do this myself and being in the military I have access to a lift etc at our auto-hobby shops.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

My end goal is to get this car looking like it came off the showroom floor. The 65-68 mustangs are absolutely gorgeous.

Hey Rick,
First, thanks for serving. What do you do in the AF?

On the car, when you say showroom floor, do you mean putting it back as original as possible... or simply fresh and new?

Take a look at my website below for some ideas on updating a 65 interior. Things such as gages, seats, seatbelts, underfloor insulation, etc are discussed.

I appreciate the help. That's a great site. I'm an analyst in the AF (Sorry, my job requires me to be vague). By showroomI mean shiny and new while still keeping the 65 mustang heart. It's an American icon and I love them.

Hmm, I'm looking at the dash and I noticed the speedometer and general dash setup seems really different than all the other 65 stangs I've seen. Is that something that was added or is it stock?

That is the standard 65 gage cluster. You got the round gages by going Shelby or GT or Pony interior in 65. In 66 all the gages wen round. also many of us with otiginal 65 type have upgraded to the round gages so you see less and less of the units like he has.

If you don't mind my asking, where is the gauge set you have from? They are really eye catching and I like the look.

That is 66' style upholstery on the seats. Not that it matters, just that you may be surprised when you order 65' covers and you get something different.

Hey I really appreciate the replies! I'm learning a lot. I found out my stang has power assisted drum brakes. I was told this would make the conversion to disc easier? I'm more an electrical guy myself. Never done much with brakes. Will that make the conversion easier or was that a line someone fed me?

Also, in regards to the stick kits. I can get a t5 transmission from an old fox body someone wrecked out here. Would that save me some $ or would the t5 in that not work?
