wandering gauges
 

Hey everybody,

I have a 66 2+2, that is essentially stock. Recently I have notices that my gauges (fuel, oil, and H2O temp) are all wandering in synch. Thus, I suspect some sort of voltage fluctuation. I know there is a constant voltage part in the dash, but wonder if this is the most likely bit to replace. Also if anyone has replaced this constant voltage part, are the aftermarket parts reliable??

no idea really, might be the IVR - (i think that stands for instrument voltage regulator?)

Yeah, prollya voltage regulator problem, or perhaps a short in the wiring for the dash that feeds all the same gauges

yeah, sounds like a voltage regulator. mine was loose so it was doing that, so i took it off, used some sandpaper to make sure there was a clean surface between it and the gauge housing and then screwed it on nice and tight. that seemed to fix it.

I agree with previous posts. The voltage regulator and or connections. This regulator is mounted on the backside of your dash gauge cluster. Good Luck!

Start by checking the ground wire between the instrument panel and the frame. if it's loose/broken and causing an intermmittant, you'll get the gage drift downward then back up. Otherwise it's going to be the IVR going south on you.
