302 with big storker or 351?
i have a 64 1/2 mustang that i am going to do an engine swap. i currently have a straight six in there but i am going to put a v8 in there. i just wanted to hear some in put from you guys on what engine to put in there. 302 or 351 whats the ups and downs to each engine? i am looking for a street/strip engine with something in the range of 350 to 400 HP.....
Make sure you change out the spindles to 5 lug add beefer springs and steering that 4-lug front end won't hold up to the power of a v-8 I would go with a 289 get the crank custom ground add high compression pistons a good cam take the heads and have 194 160 valves installed port and polish the heads install screw in studs beef springs and roller rockers the power you will produce will be around 350 + hp and the weight will not be near the 351w and the power will really show
The 351 has a goofy intake that was lowered because of the increased deck height, (taller block) to clear the hood. If you getan after market intake that doesnt have this feature and a good set of heads, like RPM's or Trick Flow then you can make serious power. a 347 stroker looks like a 289 or 302, but packs a bigger punch and few can tell the difference. The cost will be about the same for either one. It all depends on what you can find and what your budget will allow.

Me if I had a 64, I would go for the 347. If it was for my 67 Cougar, I would find a 351W or drop in one of my 351C's. If it was for a 79-93 Fox, either the 351C or a 460!

Go for a 347. Its lighter and can make 400 horspower with no problem at all. check out DSS Racing if you want complete quality top of the line all forgedparts. Or go to summit or something. 347 Stroker is only like a 1000 bucks at DSS ! Great deal
I would also go with the 347 stroker. i believe it is the best for your buck. and it does pack a hell of a punch. and a good place to get a complete engine is badasscars.com they are in sonoma ca.
