what aftermarket kits should i concider? ebay kits? how reputable are they? how well do they fit?

My opinion is you should take your car to a local shop that will make and install custom exhaust. I had an awful time dealing with CJ Mustang over a "pre bent model year specific dual exhaust set up for my car. It was an absolute disaster. I'll never buy a thing from them again. Anyway, I had a local shop do it for $350 (Flow Masters included). Would have been $300 w/o the FM's. All welded and aluminized pipe. Looks and sounds terrific. The kit was $250 and it was an absolute mess. I have restored a few cars in my day and the only two tasks I won't tackle are exhaust systems from scratch and installing headliners.

Seems like there's still a good deal going on stainless steel pipes and Magnaflow muffs.

Corky, you still got the details?

https://mustangforums.com/m_3751548/tm.htm This is from a couple of days ago.
As JamesW, pointed out, this costs less than what a local shop will do with aluminized pipe.
Though their site quotes a higher price using the code "ebayrocks" (hey, its not my idea) will get you the $348 delivered price. Actually the price might vary + or - $5 depending on where you live.
It cant hurt to check it out.

I spent the best part of the day installing a pre-fab exhaust kit yesterday. Unfortunately I had to re-fab part of the pre-fab due to my transmission selection I think.

I think that the kit my son bought was pretty good, but it was not meant to be a 100% bolt in, even though it was marketed that way. We still have toinstall the pipes over the axle,, more fun to follow..

I got that kit and the install was pretty straightforward. You will likely still have to have a muffler shop connect the headers to the pipes depending on what you have. Overall it is a pretty nice kit and a good value at that price. It is a tad loud for my taste but YMMV ...

i wouldnt weld your exhaust kit. id bolt it all together in case there is ever a problem or want something to be changed, once you well it youll have to cut it to take it about.

I'd say just take it to a muffler shop. Shops have been welding in custom exhaust systems for decades. It's not a complicated matter, and they can weld up pretty much whatever you ask for. Just ask for 2-1/4" pipe, an H-pipe (the closer to the collectors, the better), and themufflers of your choice.

I bought a kit off ebay. 2 1/4", all pre-bent, with turbo mufflers. I had an exhaust shop install them to my tri-y headers. Modifications were necessary, even though they were supposed to be an exact fit. It turned out to be substantially less than having the exhaust making them from scratch (I was quoted $650, including flowmasters).

I bought one of the kits, and could not make much of it work. If you have headers, they might not come out where the kit expects. I have the TCP subframe connectors and cross braces, and they were in the way. In the end, I had to take it to an exhaust shop, and they were only able to use the over axle pipes. Next time, I will just go to a shop and have them custom bend one.
