Default Front Inner Fender Replacement?

I was looking over my 66 and found the battery tray and most of the front inner fender are gone. I think it bolts on to the shock tower and is spot welded to the radiator support, antbody fixed this before? Also in the 2nd pic there is a hole in the front of my shock towers. I looked at some replacements and the holes weren't there, it looks like someone torched these in, any ideas why?

its welded to the shock tower the frame rail and the core support the bolt on the shock tower are for the coil spring covers. the hole was torched there so a lazx mechanic could grease the upper control arms. but basically you drill all the spot welds clean and fit the replacemment metal with sheet metal screws hang the front end back on to make sure the gap are correct and everything will line up then plug weld it all back together

You could make a patch panel for your inner fender. might take a little patience but it could be done.

I'm still in disbelief in how many people decided to cut holes in the tower to grease the shafts. [sm=bangbang.gif] INSANE!

The hole in the shock towers was a common occurance. They it it to my 69 fastback. It was my firdt car and I was naive when I brought it to the suspension shop. Just another reason to be very specific about what to do and not to do when you let "pros" work on your car.

The rust on the battery apron is also one of the most common on an old mustang. I have repaired them both ways, replacing the whole panel or just patching.IMO, it is best to leave the panel and cut out a patch from a replacement panel and but weld in. This way, you can make the sem dissappear and you still have the factory spot welds etc. Search mustang monthly or the FAQ's. There was a recent write up aboutthis.

Good luck.
