Default 351C 2V Enhancements

Ok, lets say I want to upgrade this motor and this is what I am thinking. Lets say I want to keep the engine itself stock but I want to increase HP. Leaving the long block alone I want to add a 2V four barrel intake. Any ideas which way to go. I want to go with a 4 barrel holley I think. What CFM should I go with. I want a set of ceramic coated headers. Which way should I go on a 72 mustang for headers. I want a HEI distributer and new wires, which way should I go and what is wrong with the procomp brand of distributers. Does K&N make a filter for our stock carb intake. What would be the problem with staying with a set of 2 V heads in the future if I work around the ones I have now. My ultimate goal is 400 HP with a bored and stroked engine in the future but between now and then I want a faster driver. Ed

i think wieand makes an intake for your needs, i know edelbrock does.

a holley / barry grant 650 vac. secondary carb would be my choice for something your driving around on the street.

hooker headers have always been great, but hedman and others make good headers as well.

procomp dizzys are cheap crap, look into crane and if they dont make 351C stuff start looking towards MSD.

yeah, k&n makes virtually every shape and size air cleaner you can think of

add a mild cam to the above setup and your pushing close to 400 hp already (at the flywheel)

They may not be listed that way, but a 460 distributor will fit a 351 Cleveland. That might give you a few more choices.

I just had to chime in on this one. I bought my 69 mach with a mildly modded 351C already in it. Currently I have an edlebrock 2V intake with a holley 4V dp. I also have a mild cam and the whole MSD setup. Pro-billet dist, MSD 6AL, blaster 2 coil and MSD wires. This was a very expensive setup but supposedly the best. I went with a holley air filter...the triangle type and I am soon going to purchase a holley main body upgrade. That should add another 35 HP. Then I plan on stuffing some hooker headers and a summit header-back exhaust with turbo mufflers. I figured I should be pushing 400HP or over by the end.

Check out Sanderson headers, handmade in South San Francisisco (you would probably use the FC4).

As for intake and carb, what would be a good choice now (with the stock cam), and what would be a good choice later (with a more radical cam and more cubic inches), may be different. I'm running a 750 CFM Vacuum secondary Demon, and using a Edelbrock performer RPM airgap intake. I'm making a lot of torque in the 3500 rpm range, with peat HP at about 5500.

stick with what you have IMO, your intake and carb is a little on the fat side for stock, but would support future stuff like a better cam much better.

Well, without getting to the Cleveland cylinder head flame war argument and the need to get better heads to really make power, yes, you'll need a camshaft as well. A cam with a good 4bbl carb/intake and an exhaust and ignition will make for a healthy engine. But the question is what kind of power are you looking for, and what is your goal?

The last poster said it. I could care less about the number in the HP I only care how fast it goes without breaking it. This car is cherry. It even has the original paint and it looks new. The original interior is worn a small amount but it looks new also. I want to take this 175 HP granpas car and modify it in such a way as to make it my daily driver. I want to have some seriuos fun with it but I do not race. I think I will pull the heads and have them ported and polished while they are being rebuilt and at the same time I will add a cam. Then of course the intake and exhaust as well as the distributer. You guys have given me much to look at now its time to get the wife to losen the purse strings a bit. I will have pics next week for all to see. Ed

If you are going to do head work, look into the Cleveleand port match kits. They help greatly with flow from what I read. Also look into getting the heads machined for adjustable rockers.

Thanks. I am really getting excited now. I just went and ordered my K&N air filter and bought me the new billet gas tank lid. The one on the car is not stock so I went all out.
