68 coupe questions

Default 68 coupe questions

i was wondering how much horsepower my 8" rear end and stock c4 tranny can handle? i'm going for somewhere around 360-370.

i remember someone posting this same question a while back, i though they said that the c4 could take 250-300 and maybe a little more on the rear but i could be way off. ill also need to know because soon ill be push 400 hp

I'm putting about 370hp(crank) through my 8" and I don't worry about it

Of course if it happens to break when you hit the gas to pass someone on aCA freeway you might develop a low opinion of this advice.

Ford used the 8" for up to 220 hp, for higher hp (k-code and big blocks) they went to the 9". Something to consider if you want a reliable driver. Some hot rodders have lived with the 8" up to 400 hp, but then the live with the fix it when it breaks philosophy.

The 8in will hold up fine with an automatic, stick is a different story. Anything other than stock and I'd put better bands and a cooler on a C-4.
