Default rear end help

i have a 9inch rear end right now i dont know what the gears are right now but i saw this on craigslist http://sacramento.craigslist.org/pts/411133852.html would this be much of a downgrade? i really want to get it cause it comes with the disk brake setup is it a good deal if the gears in it are good?

I can't tell what it's sitting under, but if it's not a fox, it won't fit under your car,and even if it is, you're going tohave to weld new perches onto it. Plus, you've already got a 9", there's no reason to downgrade. Worry about gears, not adding rear discs. You can do that later if you really want to, but it's not really necessary unless you're taking it to the track often.

Not too bad a price on that. It's alittle too wide for your application I believe, but wouldnt be much of a problem. You would also need to move the perches, like said above. Just because you have a 9" doesnt necessarily mean a 3.08 gearing would be a downgrade. I have 2.73 on mine...

If you have the buck tag on it still, it says..

I meant downgrade from a 9" to an 8.8. Sure, the 8.8 is lighter, and a great upgrade from an 8" if used behind a small block (I've got one at a friend's ready for me to build for my 67)...but keep the 9" behind your big block. You might appreciate it down the road

Haha, I thought you were meaning downgrade in gearing. Yes, especially with a 390 I would stay with a 9", I didnt realize what engine he had.
