Sad Thoughts
well as you guys know my engine went south a couple months ago and well i don't got the money to fix it so my buddys dad wants it and i need the money for school and i would rather it get treated good by him than juust rot in my driveway and i can get one when i am not pressed for money and tied up in school most of the time. so i am gunna wait till i am out of school and get the fastback i have always wanted. but i feel odd about the whole deal like i am giving up a part of me
Your situation is a tough one but remember "It's just a vehicle" and you will have another one when the time is right.
Who knows? Maybe your friends dad wants to buy it to keep it close to you because he understands your situation and when the time is right he will sell it back to you (fixed up) for a good price!
Or maybe he is going to try to take advantage of you so be careful not to get lowballed on the price.
I dont know how old you are but I am 28, almost 29... and I just got my first Mustang about a month ago. And believe me, it wont be my last. Hope things work out well for you.
Remember that the most important things in life cannot be bought.

Well that sucks,,, but you have to do what is best for you. I ask two things though, don't buy an Evo, STI, or a Honda, and stay on the forum... just to stay in the Mustang game, and to keep us old guys company!
Man I wish I had a SBF laying arround....
I know a guy who said he could get a running 302 for -0- I will talk to the guy tomorow, if it pans out and if this would help your situation I can post my results here tomorow. The guy told me about this about a month ago, so it is very iffy........

Hang in there man. It will be worth it in the long run. I have been in your shoes, trust me. Your degree will be your ticket in life. The cars will come and go and someday if you really want this car back, you can probably get it back into your hands as long as it is in the hands of good people. And you mentioned that fastback... You will get it, seriously. Don't take like too seriously right now. There is a LOT to look forward to.
I can remember when I was 21... It wasnt so long ago. But I was poor, trying to get through college, didnt have a car at the time due to my dumb *** getting a DUI. But I had good friends and a good woman in my life (she eventually became my wife) and now I have nothing but good memories. You forget the hard times and remember the best times, it is natural. With this in mind, focus on enjoying the best things in life right now and just take the bad with the good.
Its easy for me to spill advice on you when I dont even know the details of your situation. But like I said before, the best things in life cannot be bought. The toys, the girls, the travels and the cheese will come in time. Just keep your mind on the bigger prize for now. Getting done with school and hittin the real world full speed.
Even though I dont know anything about you, I can tell that you take life seriously or you wouldnt be on here talking about this. You would be off faded with your buddies gettin into trouble or whatever. So take that passion for life and put a smile on your face and let the cards fall where they may. You wont be disappointed.
Life is what happens while you are trying to figure out what to do next.

When I was 19 I bought my '65 GT coupe. Over the next several years I poured my blood, sweat and tears (not to mention $$$) into it. I have many good memories with that car and never would've thought of selling it. That said, I lost my storage space at the office last fall and had to bring my two early Mustangs to my house. Unfortunately, there was not enough space for five cars at my house so one of the two Mustangs had to go ... bye bye '65 GT coupe. I mean I loved that car, but I was not going to let a few good memories get in the way of keeping the '65 fastback.
In other words, once you get the car you truly want, the pain of selling your first love will pass.
Good luck with your decision!

you gotta do what you gotta do.
my only advice is dont wait until you are married with children to get the fastback or you may be waiting until you retire.
I already had my car when I met the future wife...she accepted my "baggage". If i went home tonight and said I wanted to buy a Mustang she would tell me to sell a kidney to fund it. She'd beat me over the head with a frypan or something first

All is not lost with marriage.
It is true, I have seen a few perfectly good relationships that were DESTROYED by marriage.
BUT A SUCCESS STORY: I have been married for six great years and have been sharing a car with my wife the entire time (mostly Wranglers, but a Volvo wagon for the past 2 years). We had our first kid 15 months ago. You think its over? Nope.
I bought my first Mustang a month ago! And there is room for a carseat comfortably in the back of my 68 Coupe. And the kid loves it!!! She goes "Vroom Vroom!!!" and we are having so much fun.
The key is to marry a girl who will not be a burden. If you are going to spend your life with someone, shouldn't it be FUN?!?!

Advice from another old guy. Selling your toys to finish college is a great sign of maturity. Money-wise it's smart also. I've seen too many friends with rotting cars in the yard unable to repair them, and unwilling to part with them. Clear up that debt, reach your goal, and let that goal of having a fastback gel. It's gonna happen, and you'll have the finances to make it enjoyable!
