Problems after inspection
We got the '65 titled and inspected today so its legal now!! But ont he way home we came across a couple of potential problems. (65 couple, 302 2v, T-10 4-speed and 4:11 rear gear)
#1. We have a serious case of wheel hop in 1st gear starting out. The wheels start to grab and then just break loose from the pavement and hop like mad until I stop and start off in second gear. It also looks like the leaf springs are bouncing like mad. Wheres tha problem and what can I do to fix it?
#2. While checking the drave shaft for universal play on the wheel hop problem I found that the output shaft from the transmission is excessively loose with up and down and side to side movement. The shaft seal is also worn out and allowing oil to flow out rather freely. Where can I get a break-down of a T-10 4-speed transmission so I can see if there is an output shaft bearing, where to get it and how to do it?? The seal is no probelm.
One minor side problem that cropped up while the wife was teaching the son how to drive a 4-speed was that they (laughingly) blew up the radiator!! Going to get the top tank re-solderedtomorrow and install a new thermostat at the same time.
If anyone has any info on little probelms like these, PLEASE gimme a yell!

4:11 is why too low a rear end. You need more like a 3:25 or even a 3:00 for a young driver. That's part of your wheel hop problem.
Also, sounds like your front ujoint has bit the dust too.
