You emailed asking about Raven Black. It is data code A in 1964 1/2-1969 in an online excerpt of
Mustang 1964 1/2-1973 Restoration Guidehttp://books.google.com/books?id=RFswXl1nHN0C&pg=PA25&lpg=PA25&amp ;dq=%22raven+black%22+automotive&source=web&am p;ots=unLO2HTSk_&sig=wSgcYXrYXzpfXP3ZGdcQoso-1Q8#PPA26,M1

See your paint supplier or paint shop for asistance selecting the best type of paint. I recommend a urethane base/clearcoat system for maximum longevity and shine even theough the original was a single layer product. If the information in this post is not sufficient to pick a good color, there is good advice from forum members earlier in this thread.

A final comment on your earlier question about flat vs. gloss: Most of what is seen is not true flat, but Satin. HOK and others have satin clears that give that non-gloss look while giving full protection to the finish. You can always clear it later if you want the shine. (not cheap)

When you see a primered mustang does your heart leap because it is the coolest mustang you ever saw? If so, just shoot some satin on your car to protect everything and let the multicolor primer complete the true rat-rod style?

I dont have any expierience with paint/bodywork. Is it common to take this long? You started back in October? I dont know if I would have the patience for that. Guess I better learn it though, mine is coming up soon.[&o]

Well I'm impressed. That car seems to have very little bondo or dents to deal with. They they are any kind of body shop they should be able to make that car look very nice!

How long it takes to paint a car is sort of like asking how long it takes to restore a mustang or how long to reebuild an engine. It depends on your skill and experience, how much of your time you can spend, how many power tools you have, etc. Of course the amount of renovation needed also affects the time. Finally, how good do you want the job?

Typical costs run $800 for a Maaco job to $2500+ for a provfessional body shop. Figure $50/hour for labor and that tells how long a competent, well equipped professional takes. Yes there is material cost, but ignore that and you get the fastest time for a skilled hobbist to do the job.

If that red mustang in your signature is the one you are doing, it looks pretty clean so you may not have to spend too much time redoing body work or strainghtening panels. If your paint is solid all the way down to the metal, you could simply paint over it(with proper prep), saving more time.

If you care about the finished job, don't rush it.

Good Luck!

It was night time and it was inside the shop so i couldnt really get good shots and angles.
