What have I got?
Hola. I am trying to identify my clutch and transmission. I know the trans is a Tremec 5-speed but I do not know which one. Are there any numbers or identifying features I can look for (the motor is pulled but the tranny is still in the car).
I am also concerned about the clutch. I found "APC" and"PLE344F" stamped on the inside of the pressure plate assembly. How can I find out what kind of clucth that is?
I also noticed that there are metal shims under the bolts that hold the pressure plate assembly together. Is this a common practice or should I look into replacing the springs or even the entire assembly.
Very grateful and confsed. [sm=dontgetit.gif]

It is my understanding that if the top of the transmission is square, it is a TKO, if round it is a T-5 or somthing else. (someone will know better for the round style than I)

If it's an older unit, it might be a 3550 (around 375 - 400 ft-lb rating, vs 500 or 600 for the TKO's. Apparently there is little (if any) visual difference between the 3550's and the TKO's. The following may be of some help.

Output Shafts:
The output shaft for a standard TR-3550 is a 28 spline C4, and the TKO/TKO II have the stronger 31 spline C6 output shaft. This is true for all applications.
Input Shafts:

Thanks. I already have disassembled it and the pressure was not bad at all. In fact I can depress it with my hands. That is one of the reasons I am concerned that I may need a new one.
I guess mine is round but I do not know what a TKO (or "square") looks like. But thanks anyway
