Default tire size help

I want to get new wheels and tires for my mustang. I am looking at tire sizes and I have no idea what the numbers mean. Could someone please explain how they are numbered. For example what does 225 50 16 mean

it tells the tread width, the aspect ratio, and the rim diameter.

235/75 R 15 for example:

235 is the tread width in milimeters, 75 describes the height of the tire from the bead to the top of the tread. It is described as percentage of the tire width. So 75 means 75% of 235. R 15 means the rim diameter is 15 inches.

and i dont know why its milimeters/milimeters/inches

Here is a killer site that you can play with to pick the right combo for your stang. For example. My F-70 14 of 1965 vintage = 205 70 14.

Using the calculater, if I want a 17" wheel, the tire will be 205 50 17. CHECK it OUT

235 is the tread width in milimeters
It's actually the section width, the width at the widest part looking at the tread. The tread itself is usually not as wide, you're getting the measurement of the "bulge" too. On tires with real low ratios, it's about the same.
