Engine block vin check
Good evening to all,
Question regarding a 1969 428 CJ-R. Is there a way to read the vin# on the block? I am being told that the paint on the block makes correct reading impossible. The owner of the car was told that if the paint is sanded off or if paint remover is applied, the possibility of disfigurement is very probable. There are figures on the pad beneath the valve covers on the driver's side, which makes me hopeful. Do I need to pull the engine to check for originality?? HELP!!
Thanks,
Charlie

The guy is feeding you crap. The block is cast iron. I suppose if you took a grinding disk to the numbers he would be right. Wire brush the paint. If that don't work, spray a little break free on there, that will remove the paint.

its stamped in the block takes a grinder or a file to remove it no sand paper would.id check the door tag first write down everyone like you see it. if all that matchs the deoded tag then take a paint scraper and ice pick and clean the paint off the blocks vin.
