302 a good motor?
i was wondering if you guys think a 302 is a good motor. the little devil on my shoulder keeps saying more power, but i don't have the money now. so i have two choices.choice numberone, i can save my money for a year or twoand get a bigger motor and have it basicly stock for a few years. choice number two, i can beef-up my 302 (heads, cam, lifters, roller rockers, intake, carb, headers, exhaust). but i guess my question is, can i really beef up my 302 (enough for a teenage boy to be able to show of in, lol)? plz help me solve my dillema.
Personally, I don't think a teenager should have any MORE than a 302 to play with, heh.
But yes, it's a perfectly fine platform for whatever you want to do (as long as it's not stump-pulling). With the right add-ons, I think you'd be more than happy.

I have a 302, and though it's not a naturally aspirated monster, it's built for boost or juice, neither of which I currently have. Later down the road it'll get a supercharger. When built right, 302's are excellent engines
they are good engines...a nice set of heads and a decent cam and youll be good for right around 350-400hp.
even a stock 302 with a 4bbl carb and an exhaust is enough to roast the tires pretty good lol

the 302 is a perfect platform to build on. easy add ons are headers, carb, cam, and a good set of gears in the back. But thats just for starters. My friend has a 65 fastback with a 331 stroker that'll plant you back in the seat, the engine cost about $6,000 to build, but it's well worth it and on cold tires you can't keep it on the ground.
