Cam question
I'm considering ordering a new ford crate engine and it has two options of cams.
1.) SVO B303 cam (224 intake/exhaust duration @ .50", .480" lift)
2.) SVO E303 cam (220 intake/exhaust duration @ .50", .498" lift)
Whats the difference in sound between the two? Would one supply more torque/or hp than the other and why?

I was told by Ford Racing techline that you want the B cam if you have a manual transmission as it works a lot better. If you have a stock auto then they recommended the E cam. The B cam wants a little higher stall speed on the converter IIRC. I'd call them up and get it straight from their mouth. I have the B cam crate motor and am quite pleased with it.
i dont know why your looking at ford crate motors. you can buy from reputable companies with equal or better warranties for cheaper and have more horsepower. the ford "alphabet" cams are crappy be default with their single pattern design. dont get me wrong, the ford crate motors arent slow, but if you get one your leaving power on the table and taking extra cash from your pocket
Well, I had a 'crate' motor from a reputable company and it indeed did cost less (about $600). That said, it was not a roller cam, was not a necessarily desireable year block and was from a reputable builder. The problem I've seen is that most crate motors are built with peak numbers in mind (that is the way people window shop, isn't it?) and streetability second. My crate motor ended up getting yanked and returned due to a rear main seal leak that didn't go away and in came the Ford motor. It is rated at 30 less peak horsepower, though it doesn't have to be wound to 4000+ RPM to get out of its own way.
That is not to say that there aren't crate motors out there that aren't cheaper and don't make more power in just as streetable a package, because I'm sure there are. The bottom line is that very few of us are racing and the Ford motors work very well for a street driven Mustang. Considering they are 100% new andbuilt by Ford (i.e. don't have to go head to head with small builder if there is a problem) makes it a pretty good buy in my book.
FWIW, I've had plenty of good experiences with other motors, one from RHS back in '89 and two from a local L.A. builder that I learned of from the rags. I had one bad engine from a major L.A. builder back in the late 80's that wouldn't stand behind their product (hello out of balance engine and poor porting on the heads, engine needed reworking immediately by another shop and one of the heads needed rebuilding within the year). YMMV

I have had my crate motor for about 9 years now. The only changes I have made to it was installing TFS TW Aluminum Heads & going with the 1.7 RR's soI would get more lift out of the cam.I was considering going to a bigger cam,but heard good things about the B Cam so I stuck with it. Car is a torque monster.
thanks for the input. I happen to live in the city of chicago so I dont need 400+ horsepower to get from light to light. My neighborhood is plagued with subaru WRX's and I'd like to be able to beat them in a straightline with 350 hp and 3.89 posi gears. I think a Ford crate motor would be fine.
My only other question is, do I order it directly from Ford or from somewhere like summit? It appears to be cheaper in summit.

I asked the question about the camshaft on the 5.0 section awhile ago. From what I found out about the two ford cams is that b303 is better suited for carb and e303 for fuel injection. Also the b303 is better because it has a longer duration allowing for more air and fuel in equaling more power.
