DUDE GO MANUAL, you wont regret it!!!, if you havent already decided to that should do it. haha.... IMO that 1000$$ wont pay for the trany alone, from your statement you mentioned 400hp i dont know many junk yard manuals that would hold up to that kinda power tho trany's are rated by the torque not hp im pritty sure you would be around that same number for the torque.

a t-5 trans is the most common junk find but its not rated to hold up tothat amount tho my friend has a 1990 5.0 w/ a wc t-5 and he abuses the crap out of it and my friend is pushing around 370hp.and that trany has last over 2 years with him dumping the clutch at 4k and crap like that, so i would guess its possible.

if i were you i would save a little more money and buy either a tko-500 and or a rebuild t-5 one with stronger guts both will cost you a pritty penny, maybe 2 but if your gonna have an engine pulling 400 hp you wouldnt want to be going to the junk yard every year or so and get a new tranny cuz the last one blew... but like i said THIS IS ALL JUST MY OPINION, hope this helps

ya looks like i'm gonna be spending alot more, cause i am actually gonna be pushing 500-600 hp (maybe more). also, if i drop $2000 in a TKO 500 or 600, how much other stuff will i need, and how much is that gonna run me? or, i couldjust stick with a automatic for now and make the switch later down the road right?

i have an auto and they can be built to handle whatever you can toss at em. but i have had my eye on a tremec TKO 600, though i hear auto to manual swaps are pricey andi wouldnt feel like doing it myself

4 and 5 speeds are a lot funner to drive, but if you are considering using the car for bracket racing, an automatic is alot more consistent.

ORIGINAL: Mustang.

was it a big hassle to switch? and if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the swap?
If you research it properly and make sure you have all the parts, it can be done in a weekend. The cost depends on what tranny you get . Something that handles 500hp won't be cheap. the other parts should be well under $800. My swap with a good used T-5 ( Idrove the doner car before commiting) cost about $1200.00 total.

http://www.tbtrans.com/I was quoted a fresh rebuilt T5 with a 12 month warranty 800$ out the door so do the math you gotta come up with the crossmember yoke clutch parts and clutch pedal ect.. it looks like it will be around 1,000 at the least
