Default Control Arm Zerk question

Well got that common control arm squeak. Is there a way to add zerks to the original control arms or will I have to replace them. Did a search and could not find this question asked?? I have a 1968 Coupe. I hope not as I just replaced the upper ball joints a couple months ago....oh well.

Thanks,

Forgive my stupidity (I am sure I am not the only one wondering this though), but what is a zerk?

It should have zerks.

Zerk fittings are little '****' on suspension/steering parts that get greased, they click into a grease gun so you can full up the part iwth fresh grease cleanly.

No, the original units do NOT have zerk fittings.

And yes, I believe you can add zerks to the original arms, however you'd have to remove the arms to do it. For that much effort, I'd rather just replaec the whole unit.

You can get new zerks from NPD, I am pretty sure. They are newly engineered, and are long so you can actually get to them w/o cutting a hole in your shock tower.

I just installed the 90 degree zerks on my 1966. I beleive the kit was about $20.00 It was a Scott Drake product, I purchased from CJ pony or Mustangs Unlimited. The old plugs/caps are a bear to get out. I'd start hitting them with penetrating oil days before you start the project. Once they were installed I could only pump a minuminal amount of grease, may ofjust filling the new 90 degree zerk. I think for this to be effective, meaning getting grease to the bushings. The caps you just installed the zerks onto are threaded onto suspension arm. So for grease to flow to the bushings a grove has to be cut or machined across the threads. To do this the arm has to come off the car. I beleive there are posts on this process. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Nope you're right - Daze is a big advocate of it. I plan on doing it, if I can get around to it quick enough ...
