Default Mustang 66' Feedback

Hello everyone....I'm frome Mexico City, I've just bough a 1966 Mustang Hard Top here in Mexico. I just want to received feedback from yours about my Mustang's story.
I'm just the 3th owner of the car. The 2nd owner, a mechanical engineer, purchased the car to the original owner on 1974 and since then, he has keep it and most of the time it was parked in his garage. I bought it last September 15th and I have the original invoice; I met the 2nd owner (a 81 year old man) and sold me the car because he could not drive anymore. He told me the general things that the car has ....but the important issue is that the car keeps ALMOST ALL of it's original parts. I mean, the only things that he changed is the steering wheel (he put the 67 wood one) and the radio. Apart from that, all the car has its original parts....that's for sure, they never changed almost anything, because the car was parked almost all the time...the previous 2nd owner said me that if the car was driven 2 times in 2 years, there was too much.....the thing is that of course, as time has past, some parts need some fix on them. It has the original upholstery and all that (I'll put pictures as soon as I can)....The car is now with my mechanic and he just told me that he was impressed with the car's condition. That it certainly has all its original parts, 289 engine is the original and was made just an adjustment to it. It has its original 3 speed transmission plus reverse. My mechanic told me yesterday that all the car suspension is original, and has no bumps or any rusty on them and on the body. The thing is that as I said, many original parts are wear out. So, my questions are:
1) Which is the real value of my car? It's not yet a beautiful car. I know that many "beautifiul classics cars" are just that...beautiful....but I know that they are rebuilded....I've seen how they fix them all and most of them use reproduction parts, but not true originals. And mine is still original.

2) Is it of more value to mantain my car just as it is and try to fix all its good parts....or, do you recommend me to buy new reproduction parts?

3) As I said, the upholstery is all original, but it's just wear out; it has lost his true red color tone. So, would it be possible just to give it some color to it or do you recommend me to get a new one?

Please, I'll appreciate your feedbacks.

Thanks,

Luis

Welcome Luis, it would be best to keep an unmolested car like yours original. Unfortunately many of the original parts must be purchased from aftermarket manufacturers due to unavailability. Many parts are made to OEM specs and are sold by CJ Pony Parts, Mustangs Unlimited, etc. You may also be able to find original/new parts on e-bay. You will pay more for the original parts but it is well worth the investment. Good luck my friend. You have come to the right place for help. We will steer you in the right direction when you need help.

Hola Louis!!
Its wonderful to find an unmolested car like that. The only sad part is, to keep it that way, you must only drive it very rarely. Stay Origionale!
Buenos Suerte.

Welcome Luis!
Congratulations on your new Mustang. As others suggested, keeping your car original is the best idea to keep the value high. It will take a lot of money to restore it properly so you will want to consider whether it is worth it to you. It sounds like you got a good price so you could probably sell it for profit as is.

If there is any way that you can keep it and restore it yourself, DO IT. You will fall in love with the car!
Hasta luego!

Thanks all for your opinions

Valley firearms: So, do you advise me to buy new original parts from web sites like Mustangunlimited, CJ Pony parts? That new parts that they sell are considered original?

Thanks,
Luis

I'm impressed with your English. Would you believe there are people here that are too lazy to spell the word 'distributor' and don't know the correct abbreviation of it?
