Default Problem removing spark plugs

I'm having a problem removingthe spark plugs on my 289. I've used 2 different 13/16" spark plug sockets but both seem to be too big. They seemed to be too fat, they're too big to even fit around the outer area. Do I need to find a narrower 13/16" spark plug socket?? Is there a special type of spark plug socket or amI missing something??

Try a 5/8" socket. See what that does for you.

Yeah the 5/8" worked. What spark plugs am I supposed to use?? The ones I bought are for a 289 and use a 13/16" socket.

Bare with me cause i'm really new to the whole cars and engines and working on them thing. I just figured out that the cylinder heads were changed to edelbrock cylinder heads. Is that why the spark plugs I bought dont fit?? Which spark plugs should I use??

I'd probably call Edelbrock and ask them. You could try a plug for a later model Ford 5.0, but I'm not sure the heat range would be correct.

the only heads that used the 13/16 socket plugs in the small block ford family that i know of were the early 351w heads (mine have the large plugs)

When you call Edelbrock, see if they recommend using anti seize on the spark plug.

Oh, and welcome to the board, and to the hobby!

The correct plugs for an early 289 are #45 which have 13/16" socket flats.
