Default help with dash thingy....

How do I remove the metal thing that houses the instruments, just below the dash board. Is it a major job? wanting to repaint it...

You can't. The dash metal is attached with about 386 spot welds. You'll have to mask it off and paint it in the car.

true, there is no sense in working harer than you should, you'll need to take everything out and then paint the interior then put everything back in, its a week project or longer.

If you are talking about the instrument bezel it does come out. If you are talking about the metal dash that goes from one side of the car to the other, it doesn't come out.
