Royal Purple
Just saw a Horsepower episode where they measured HP & torque w/conventional oil and RP. RP showed gains of12 hp & 6 ft lbs torque. May want to take that w/a grain of salt though because I'm sure RP is one of their sponsors.

I saw that episode as well. I don't know why you would doubt the numbers. The dyno doesn't know who the sponsor is. I do think they chose RP over some other synthetic because of the sponsorship though. I will put synthetic in my new engine after it has a chance for the rings to seat, about 500 miles.

In my opinion, not really. There are a lot of variables.
If you have a new fresh engine built to tight tollerances(modern CNC type machining, on production engines has this) and you plan to maximize the extended 8-10k mile fluid change programs, Synthetics are great.
On an engine built 25 years ago, & your fluid change schedual is 3k miles, why throw away money??
Some folks choose to do so, as is their right. I would feel wasteful, doing thatmyself.
