Default Tuff Dawg Crate Engines

I'm pulling the 302 out of my 70 fastback this winter and want to replace with something with a lillte more oomph . Was looking at Ford Crate - lot of recommendations but they are expensive.

Stumbled accross Tuff Dawg on Ebay - and a lot more in my budget. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with them. Have very good feedback on ebay. thanks

They most likely have good feedback for their customer service and fast shipping. Contact some of the people who have bought engines in the past and ask them how they are holding up.

They don't look bad, but I would diffentlly check referaces. As most everyone here knows i work for TandL engines, one thing I see in they ad that they won't do, but we will is warranty blower, super charged and NOS engines as long as you tell us thats what you want to when ordering the engine so we can build it to take it. Check out our website and ebay store. http://tandlengines.com/

I would check with T & L before making you decision for 2 reasons, MustangLover66 is a member, and I know T & L is a reputable company.

Darl at TuffDawg (D&J Machine) has about the best customer service I've ever seen from any business. His engines look like a million bucks and he builds them and ships them in a timely matter.

If you are truly interested, I'd recommend calling and speaking to Darl directly. He'll answer all your questions and will build it to your specs if they differ. You may want to look at the $2695 328hp engine he sells.

Good luck!

i have 2 friends that have used his chevy motors and they absolutly love them! there were no problems, leaks , got shipped to them fast, and the quality seemed really nice....not some slapped together motor. I plan on using his 351C motor when it comes time for that!

Thanks for the reponse I'll call Darl and look at T&L.

I didsend Darl a message and asked about going to AFR heads - that wasa $900 option but I 've heard good things about the heads.Youthink it's worth the upgrade?

I would spend the extra money for the heads and maybe see how much extra it would cost for a roller block. I know the ProComps have a spotty reputation as stated above. I asked Darl about this and he more or less stated that he wouldn't buy the assembled PC heads and run 'em out of the box. He buys bare castings, performs some minor machining and assembles them himself with quality parts. One thing to consider with the engine you posted is that the heads are a bit larger and it will be happier at higher RPM.

Like I said, Darl is a shining star in a somtimes crappy industry. Everybody has great service when things are smooth, but true colors are shown when problems occur which is why I feel so strongly about recommending him.

Good luck!

I would steer clear of the ProComps as well. I bought a pair of assembled ProComps last year and never installed them. The springs and retainers looked very cheap. I sold them and ended up buying a set of Twisted Wedge heads. Now I feel better.
