Default How can this be?

i was just at a car show this morning and my friends 69 coupe was there, i was talking to his dad and he told me that it still had the 6 inch rear in it with 2.90 gears. he has a 392 stroker engine in it pushing 415hp. and on the track he runs 13.3 at 104mph. how the heck can that rear end hold it and put out those times?

It's either an8 or 9 incher. No such thing as a 6" in anything resembling the modern (1960+) era. 2.90's also sound suspect...

The original would've been an 8", and it's possible that it could hold up for a while with that engine, assuming he's not running drag slicks, and if he replaced the diff with a 4-pinion unit it would get him even farther. But yeah, it probably won't hold up for long

Wrong again. The 6-cylinders came with a 7.5" rear end. The 8" can handle 400-450hp from a small displacement V8 without too much worry. Also, 8" highway gears are 2.73, 3.00, and 3.25.

no im not wrong, hes wrong then. i accidently said 6 inch instead of 6 cylinder, and i was told 8inch with 2.90 gears, when i looked underneither it was an 8inch but dont know about the gears. and ive been told by countless people on here that an 8inch wont hold up to a 347 stroker. that puts out 400hp so i dont know what to say. just thought it was interesting that he was putting out those times with 2.90 gears
