I heard tri y's for low rpm torque, but no high rpm power either.

It also depends on everything else you have such as cam and heads.

If the shorties have small tubes and if they fit go ahead and use them. You'll have better ground clearance and it will be better than stock manifolds.

I can take a picture of a modified long tube header if you are curious...

well the problem was that the longtube hit the idler arm. so i just found out you can get a drop bracket for that arm to clear. but the other problem was the drivers side header flangewas flush against the floor.or i can have them sent back and try the mount. the sandersons are ment for a 4v but can work with their 2v copper adapter. the size of the tubing isnt small its 1 7/8 and the hemans are 1 5/8 and i think the hookers are a litte bigger. what should i do? theres got to be something that will work there.

It's gonna depend on the engine build and where you want the torque. Pretty much any of them are going to be better than stock. You could also try adjustable engine mounts to lower the engine, and thus the collector flange. The larger diamter headers though are going to make their power in a higher rpm range, generally speaking. The more beastly the engine is as far as low end torque(and the more exhaust flow it has a low rpm) the better a larger diamter primary is going to work at lower rpm.

so do you think its ok for me to get those shorty 1 7/8 headers on my 2v stock block. eventually ill be putting a bigger cam, carb, manifold and hopefully that will help the bigger tubes.

im surprised as many members here that own shops couldnt make me a set for a price that will fit

The bigger headers will work, but you may get a bit worse mileage and have slightly less bottom end power. It may be noticable, or it may not, but if you build it up later you won't have to buy another set of headers. The problem you have though is finding something that'll fit too

do you think itll even make that much less? i mean were talking 5/8 vs 7/8 diffrence and its a shorty going into a 2 1/4 inch pipe.

but the big thing i want to change is the sound. do you think itll sound as good as longtubes?
