Default aod question

I found someone who is selling two aod transmissions. One is from a 1991 crown victoria with a 302 engine, and the other is from a 1986 Lincoln LSC. Would these work in a 69 coupe? The one from the 86 was recently rebuilt but the problem with it is that the input shaft snaped the end off in the torque converter and the bushing in the end of the pump is a little damaged from the shaft. Is it junk? Any idea what the set is worth? Will long tube hooker headers work with an AOD?
Thanks for the help.

AOD from the Cr.Vic is the better choice. Read up on AOD's you may get a better plan.

The 91 would be your best bet. It can be adapted to your application.

The Hooker Competition headers won't fit without modifying them. The Super Competition headers are angled different below the collector and look like they might fit. Regardless, it's a tight area along the AOD oil pan. The shifter and TV linkage needs to be installed and rigged correctly before installing the left header.
I used the Hedman shorty on my last AOD car. Seems to run strong and I have plenty of ground clearance.

How does one modify headers? I have the hooker competition headers. Is this something where you are best to pull the engine and set it all up on the ground first before installing the transmission in the car? It also sounds like i am better off buying a built up AOD than a used one.

I would avoid a used one. Get it rebuilt with clutches and do a shift kit.
I have competition headers. They did not clear the oil pan on the AOD.
With the engine and tranny bolted together sitting on jack stands, try to install the headers. It won't work.
Take the headers to the local exhaust shop and have them cut off the section below the collector with the cutting wheel. Do not make a 90 degree cut. Angle it a few degrees. Go home and bolt the headers to the heads. Now take the cut off sections and reposition them so they clear the oil pan. Make an index mark.
Take the the headers back to the shop or other talented welder and reweld the sections with the index mark aligned.

It works. Trust me.

There is a thread I started about a week ago on the AOD and gas mileage. In it there is info on another transmission 4R70W, that might be better.
