garaunteed whatever you paid for for it couldve bought you an AMERICAN MADE vehicle just as reliable... or I couldve built you a go kart out of a briggs and stratton and plywood that wouldve been considerably cooler than an import....
FWIW, my wife's "import" Honda mini-van was made in Alabama, USA (Honda has 12 manufacturing plants in the US and most of the Hondas/Acuras sold in the US are made here). Conversely, my Dodge Ram is 'Hecho en Mexico".

this is why the UAW has struck GM and Chrysler and now we at Ford sit and wait terrified....
I thought it was because the legacy costs (pensions, healthcare) for the big three put them at a $2000+ per car disadvantage to the "exports".

Your wifes HOnda, may be ASSEMBLED in Alabama; but it was NOT produced there. Every part was produced out of the states. 11% of Hondas workforce is in America. And if it is a Japanese Company, where do all the big wigs live? Probably Japan... and who spends the most money in the world? The people WITH the most money... Ergo the money you spend on an import goes to the parent company, Honda, whiich is based in Japan. And the people recieving huge paychecks and bonuses are spending their money where? Japan. So where does it get taxed at? Japan. What economy is booming by an increased revenue flow? Japan.

Its not as black and white as people want to believe.

And sorry, but Wrong. The FEMA for the healthcare is NOT why they went on strike. It was for job security. Both sides wanted the FEMA, that wasn't even a discussion when negotiations were going on; that was just a small detail. We want to keep our jobs here in AMERICA, whch is hard to do when people assume INCORRECTLY that Toyota gets A) better gas mileage (Do some research, in the ads where they claim this, they are comparing a 4cylinder Camry to a V8 of whatever Ameriican Made they choose totarget...)B) last longer (PLEASE.... Toyota has only been in the us, same as honda, for about 20 years, if that. They are still baby companies and C) are more economical (hyundai and toyota are the two WORST polluters in thew world; but it doesnt get reported because they don't have as serious of laws on it where they are produced; ASIA.

And if you were right about pensions and what not... we are $2000 behind them... because the American wqorkers can SURVIVE on what we are paid. They make pennies per DAY in asian factories, sometimes not even that. But you're right. Go ahead and buy a foreign vehicle knowing some 8 year old girl sewed your seats for you for next to nothing, so she could give it to her family and they could BARELY make it through to the next day.

I'm going to start an actual topic on ths later today. I feel like people are uneducated.... or just don't care about their country...

Hey, he's a car guy, ANY new car is exciting...even my son's buddies Focus was...exciting. [8D]

Good daily driver too. FYI, to the guys talking about imports vs. American and to the readers looking for a car. Check out the GM's with the 3.8L V-6. My Mom had a love for Pontiac's and her Bonneville ended up with my son when she passed away. He wrecked the car and bought a Mazda. He misses that Bonneville for it's size, AND it's gas mileage. He was getting 28-30 with the GM and could get all his friends in comfortably.
