Default Headers with manual transmission

I have been struggling to get the drivers side header on with no luck. Car is a 67 coupe 289 with manual tranny. It looks like the clutch assembly is in the way. Can I take it off and reintstall after header is on? Also, i am not 100% sure they are the right headers since they came with the car uninstalled. The passenger side fit fine. ANy suggestions?

Thanks

this is exactly what they tell you when you buy they headers. you can only fit a handful of headers on with a manual trans. what kind of headers are they?

Maybe they were uninstalled because they don't fit. You might have to eat them.

Take a good hard look at the geometry and make vertical/horizontal measurements to see if it's even close to fitting. A hearer made for a manual trans. has the tubes bent to clear the clutch assembly. (equalizer bar) If it's a "near miss" you can dimple the tubes slightly to make it work.
If you decide to start fresh use the Shelby equalizer bar and tri-y headers. Everything SHOULD fit.
Keep a hammer handy.

I helped a buddy put a set on a 289 with a 4-speed years ago. I think we took the bellcrank loose and it seems like we had to raise the car up and slip them in from the bottom. Sorry I don't remember more, but that was over 30 years ago.

If you can find the part number on the part, you could call the mfg and see if they are made for manual cars

You may need to remove the linkage, install the headers and then install the linkage. If memory serves me correct, I had some headers years ago that worked this way.

gothand, that is what it looks like. The headers look like they are shaped to allow for the linkage but you would definately have to take the linkage out , then intall the header, then reinstall the linkage. How do you remove the pivot arm attached to the side of the block for the clutch? Also, the number stamped on the header at the bottom reads 111

i was also thinking that shorties didn't fit at all on the 67 with the manual tranny
