Is that the one "they" recomended ? Id suggest contacting Comp cams and either getting the whole kit or letting them decide the proper cam for your setup. From you describing your secondaries as a means to decide a proper cam makes me wonder if you know what your doing. [&:]
Before you run out and buy a cam do me a favor and I will do a favor for you. Answer these questions honestly or to the best of your knowledge.
1: What type of driving do you intend to do? eg, street/strip, cruiser, drag car, weekend toy that needs a bit more oomph but a smooth idle..
2: Whats your budget for the cam and related valve train. A hydraulic roller will need lifters, pushrods, springs and distributor gear as a bare minumum. Read that as $$$$$ because your engine does not have the roller cam if its an 84 and all the parts must be retrofittted to it. A hydraulic flat tappet cam is the least expensive way to go.
3: Auto or stick?
4: If auto do you plan to swap in a higher stall converter?
5: What gears are in the rear end?
6: Does your car have AC right now?
7: will you be swapping to aftermarket aluminum heads any time soon?
8: Headers or iron manifolds?
9: Its a 65 right?

by me saying is this a good cam for me = me not knowing squat about cams, right now i do want a car with someoomf to it and right now i am looking for a decent cam $300 or less, it is a 65 with the ac not working, and no i do not have all the money to do all the mods needed for a thumper, in the summer time when i get back to working full time i would like to have it race ready, but for now just a fast street car.

x2 on the Comp Cams people. I like the cams they offer. Im running an XE274 flat tappet cam in my Cleveland, that would be a bit big for yours, since you have stock heads and it sounds like you dont want to buy springs, locks, retainers, and pushrods. So you would be looking for a cam that is somewhat smaller than that one, hydraulic flat tappet, that doesnt need the springs swapped to work. It is highly recomended you change the springs, locks, and retainers when you do a cam swap. Lifters on a non-roller cam are a definite must. If you use old lifters you will have a flat cam in less than an hour.
Now you dont have to buy from Summit, but here are some I would recomend to you.
