Default modify fiber glass hoods shape?

My '66 coupe has a fiberglass cowl induction hood from the previous owner that is a few years off a '66 so it fits somewhat awkward

it humps up about midway up from my bumper about half an inch or so...if I push it down it seems to fit perfect, but doesn't stay of course.

anyone know if there's a way I could change the shape slightly and get it to stay?

Take the springs out?

Either that or I don't understand what part of the hood you are referring to.

Yea just about any fiberlgass hood is not going to fit well.
Take a look here for 'Bow" in hood fix. It's alot of work, but the result is a sa-weet fit!

Thats some good info, and a good way to permently fix the bow caused by the springs. dirtydave, your hood bow more likely has been caused by the hood springs that were designed for a heiver steel hood. When closed, the spring tension still pushes up on the end of the hood and in time will make it bow. As dodgestang said, remove the springs. For aquick fix (well not too quick), you may try to add some weight in the bowed areas with thehood down(springs off) and seeif you can bow it back. Heat from the sun will help (it may go back into shape on its own). Careful not to scratch the finish.I would make a prop rod and loose the springs. If you have hood pins, you can get a piece of aluminum tube from "Lowe's" (I think I used 1/2 ID) that will fit over the pin, a little bend in it, and it will hold up the hood fine. Putting it on the hood pin keeps people from hitting it, and knocking it out.

If it were my car, I would work from simplest to more radical/expensive. First I would try removing the hood hinges and using a prop, then go to weight and heat. Last I would go with the method from the website I mentioned above.

That last one is a lot of work and takes some skill, but it IS a permenant fix if nothing else works.

And yes that last method would remove that bad a bow, but so MAY some of the other ideas.

Good luck man!

Sounds good, I'll start with some props and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help!
