Explorer rear end

Do we have to do anything with the MC or the proportioning valve when going form rear drums to disk?

I have a 70 fastback, I just changed thefront from drums to disk, so I have a new MC & valve. Do I have to use the MC or/and valve from the explorer or is mine sufficient?

I think you probably need an MC for disc/disc and a proportioning valve. Disc brakes take a different amount of fluid than drums (I don't remember if it's more or less). I used an Explorer MC with a Fox power booster. The reason I used the Explorer MC is that the lines come out on the left (driver's side) to clear the valve cover onthe 4.6 engine(about 1/4" clearance). I think I remember reading that some guys use a 2000 V6 Mustang MC (search on VMF or contact Mustang Steve www.mustangsteve.com. He has all kinds of parts and knowledge about this stuff.). I don't know if your proportioning valve will work. I bought a Speedway adjustable valve (same as Wilwood for about 2/3 the cost - about $35).

The explorer rear end is great because it has 31 spline axles and heavy duty disk brakes, but the drawbacks (besides the fact that it wont fit in my Falcon) are the already mentioned pinion flange, and the fact that its HEAVY! I can lift an average 9" by myself, but the explorer 8.8 is heavier. I never weighed the one I had, but it was really heavy. Probably a little better suited to a fullsize car, or stationwagon, especially if you plan to do a lot of towing.
