Default ? on strut rod

I was wondering if the strut rods (from the lwr control arm to frnt x-member) if those are used to adjust the posistion of the lwr control arm frnt to back, or do they hold the arm in the proper position? I have on my 72 vert. my drivers side is approx 1/2" off of the passenger side, i know that it cant be just there but i figured i would start with that. My crossmember is in the right spot that the lwr control arm hooks into and the upr ball joint is only 1/4" out of spec. any idea's besided bent parts?

you are correct, after front to rear adjustment it holds the lower in the correct position. any alignment shop you take it too can tell you what if anything needs to be replaced.
