Default Trak loc or Open?

I just scored a bunch of old ford parts and Im trying to identify an 8 inch rear axleI got. From the stamping on differential case Ive concluded the rear end is from a '67 Torino or Fairlane. But, is there anyway to tell if its an open rear end or a limited slip without cracking the carrier open? Thanks

I guess you could put the diff on jackstands and spin the wheels.

No axles. Just the axle housing and 3rd member. If i took the 3rd member out of the housing and turned one side, would I get the same results?Turningin the same direction or turning against each other.

I really don't know. Someone who knows more about it will probably comment soon.

Does it have the factory tag on it? If not, you'll have to pop it open and take a look at it.
